this is what I did with my Friday night.

left: [livejournal.com profile] fringelement right: [livejournal.com profile] fadedrunes center: Pear Ginger Pie from The Garden of Vegan by Tanya Barnard & Sarah Kramer

sometime after [livejournal.com profile] bekabee left to drive down from Newburg to join us in watching 4.10, I rode my bike down to Sundance to pick up the missing ingredients. for the pie we used two Clairgeau, two Comice, and one Asian Pear.

while the rest of us (Sarah, [livejournal.com profile] rainwalker_50, [livejournal.com profile] elven_freckles, Jeremiah) goofed off, [livejournal.com profile] fadedrunes mixed the dough and set it to chill...some misadventures later (we forgot the vanilla extract) she finished the filling and rolled out the dough. and then, you know, put them together.

with all the actual pie-making work done, I got with the decorating.

you know what's awesome? reference photos. thank you SuperWiki!

there was still plenty of dough left after the main design was complete...

so I decided to upgrade it to the version we've seen in Bobby's panic room.

no demons are getting in (or out) of this thing.

while I was obsessing over pie crust, [livejournal.com profile] fadedrunes and Sarah got everything ready for the burgers

and potatoes! they're like fried baked crack.

with the pie finished, we enjoyed some tasty, tasty burgers (Amy's Texas and All American Veggie Burgers, fresh guac (minus lime, which we...forgot.), grilled onions, sautéed mushrooms, black beans, NOM)

and taters. I think Ruby would approve.

then we stuck the pie in the oven and put on I Know What You Did Last Summer. by which I mean, 4.09.

but not before we took a bunch of pictures and forgot that a pie with a very juicy filling should not be tipped at wacky angles. whoopos!

one demon-sexing episode later, and bam! PIE!

we probably should have left it in a little longer

but we're not exactly experts on this whole pie-baking business

we're just really enthusiastic!

and then [livejournal.com profile] fadedrunes had a minor demon problem

and okay, so it was probably juicier than a pie is really supposed to be

but that didn't stop it from being THE MOST RIDICULOUSLY DELICIOUS THING I HAVE EVER TASTED (that didn't involve chocolate). especially with a scoop of Double Rainbow Vanilla Bean Soy Cream, which, hokay - Double Rainbow makes the creamiest damn not-ice-cream I have ever tasted. fact.

and in conclustion: NOM.

and then we watched Heaven and Hell. I will be articulating my thoughts on this whole two-parter at some point, but in the meantime, you can get our immediate reaction.
